Police Secretly Move Sowore, Allegedly Break His Arm

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has reportedly been moved to an unknown location by the police after being held in Abuja.

Sowore was earlier detained at the Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja after showing up following a police invitation.

According to Sahara Reporters, Sowore was quietly taken away from custody, and during the process, his arm was allegedly broken.

The incident was said to have happened on Wednesday, shortly after he arrived at the police headquarters.

A source told Sahara Reporters that Sowore was removed from the FID office at about 6:00 a.m. by a Chief Superintendent of Police who reportedly works with the Force PRO, Muyiwa Adejobi.

The source added that Sowore’s current whereabouts are unknown and that he was taken away by force after a confrontation.

It was claimed that the officer tried to take him out without allowing him to get properly dressed, which led to resistance from Sowore.

The source said Sowore insisted on dressing up before leaving, and the disagreement that followed led to a struggle during which his arm was allegedly broken.

When Sowore arrived at the police office on Wednesday at 12:16 p.m., he came with his lawyers, A.K. Musa and Marshal Abubakar, along with a large group of supporters.

He brought a packed bag with items like toothpaste, toothbrush, clothes, soap, and books, suggesting he expected to be detained.

Supporters from the Take It Back Movement and other groups reportedly gave police a two-hour deadline to release Sowore or face protests.

Even though he had earlier rejected the invitation, saying it was filled with legal mistakes, he still honored it but was arrested immediately on arrival.

While still in police custody, Sowore posted on his 𝕏 account that he had been shown two petitions — one for forgery and the other for criminal defamation.

The petitions were delivered by DCP Akin Fakorede, a former SARS officer who has been involved in past controversies.

Sowore also said one of the petitions was from Bukola Yemisi Kuti, who he claimed was promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police because of her relationship with the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

He alleged that Kuti, whom he called the IGP’s mistress, filed a defamation petition against him.
