Kano police arrest four suspects over m8rder of 300-level BUK student

The Kano State Police Command has arrested four individuals in connection with the tragic killing of a 300-level student of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), named Abdullahi Umar Hafizi. The incident happened in Tsamiyar Kuturu, located in the Dorayi Karama area of Gwale Local Government.

According to reports, the student was attacked and fatally stabbed by people believed to be phone snatchers around 11 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025.

The police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, released a statement confirming the arrests. He explained that the operation was a joint effort involving officers from several divisions, including Dorayi Babba, Sharada, Kumbotso, and other tactical units.

During the operation, the police recovered cutlasses, scissors, and other dangerous weapons from the suspects.

The suspects, who lived in different areas of Dorayi Karama, were arrested after the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, gave a 24-hour deadline to track down those responsible.

Police revealed that the operation led to the discovery of several weapons, and efforts are ongoing to find others who may have been involved but are currently on the run.

The Kano State Police Command extended their sympathy to the deceased’s family and praised the officers for acting swiftly and professionally. They also promised to continue working hard to ensure peace and justice for everyone.
