Super Falcons defender Oluwatosin Demehin has been honoured with a traditional chieftaincy title in Ondo State. The recognition came shortly after her remarkable performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where she played a key role in helping Nigeria clinch the championship.
The title “Yeye Akeweje Ilaje” was bestowed upon her by His Royal Majesty, Oba Kayode Aiyetiwa, the Oba of Bariga in Ondo State. This honour celebrates Demehin’s positive influence and contribution to the development of young people in her community.
Demehin, who plays as a centre-back for Galatasaray, featured in all six matches during the tournament, showcasing resilience and leadership on the field. Her efforts did not go unnoticed both nationally and in her home state.
Earlier this week, the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, also rewarded her with a generous gift of ₦30 million and a house in appreciation of her achievements and the pride she brought to the state.
At just 23 years old, Demehin continues to inspire the next generation, not only through her football success but also by giving back to the community that raised her.
