Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has had his 2019 Lamborghini Urus seized by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Ghana. The seizure was carried out in collaboration with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Justice Department. This action followed a request from US authorities back in 2023.
The car was taken from Shatta Wale’s residence located in Trassaco Valley Phase 1, Accra. According to EOCO’s acting director Raymond Archer, the vehicle is believed to be connected to proceeds from a financial crime case involving a man named Nana Kwabena Amuah. Amuah is currently serving a prison sentence in the United States for multiple fraud-related offenses.
In June of this year, EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) carried out a legal search of the property, which led to the discovery and seizure of the Lamborghini. Investigators say the luxury car is part of the funds Amuah gained from criminal activity.
At the time of the operation, the Lamborghini was found in Shatta Wale’s possession. To avoid drawing attention, he was allowed to hand over the vehicle himself. According to EOCO, the musician asked officers to keep the seizure discreet because the car was strongly tied to his public image and music brand.
Officers who conducted the operation were armed, but EOCO explained this was simply for safety, as is standard in such operations. The car is now in the custody of EOCO.
The US government is expected to send an official request asking the Ghanaian government to return the car as part of efforts to recover the $4.74 million that Amuah is ordered to repay. EOCO also revealed that Shatta Wale and a former National Signal Bureau officer are persons of interest in the case. They are expected to be invited for further questioning soon.
EOCO said it may share the final report of its investigation with US authorities to support the ongoing cooperation between both countries.
