A 59-year-old man has been arrested after he was allegedly caught in the act of abusing a 6-year-old girl in Cross River State.

The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in Nko community, located in the Yakurr Local Government Area.

Local journalist Iwara U Iwara shared details of the incident on Facebook, saying that members of the community caught the suspect while he was committing the crime.

The man, identified as Eyo Opla Obeten, is said to be a native of the Nko community. His actions sparked outrage and unrest among residents, who were shocked by the situation. The identity of the young girl has been kept private due to the sensitive nature of the case.

Iwara stated that this may not be the end of the matter, as more updates are expected as investigations continue.
