Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, a Catholic priest in Nigeria, has publicly criticized an Anambra State professor who, according to him, feels uneasy about Peter Obi’s presidential bid. In a post shared online, Fr. Ugwu accused the professor of being intimidated by the idea of another person from their region potentially becoming president before him.
Though he didn’t name the individual, Fr. Ugwu made it clear the professor is uncomfortable with Obi’s growing popularity. He explained that the professor believes if Obi becomes president first, the South East region might not have another opportunity for many years. Additionally, Obi’s leadership might become the standard by which future politicians from Anambra are judged — something the professor reportedly finds threatening.
Fr. Ugwu suggested that out of fear and envy, the professor would prefer to back candidates like Atiku or Tinubu instead of supporting someone from his own region. He went further to say the professor lacks wisdom and is allowing jealousy to guide his political choices.
This strong statement came shortly after Anambra Governor Charles Soludo appeared to criticize Peter Obi, particularly regarding Obi’s promise to serve just one term in office. While Fr. Ugwu didn’t mention any names, many observers believe his post was directed at the governor, given the timing and context.
