UMYU expels 57 students over alleged exam malpractice

Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), located in Katsina State, has taken strong action against students caught cheating in exams. A total of 57 students have been expelled for being involved in different forms of exam malpractice.

This decision came after the school’s main examination misconduct committee reviewed the cases and sent its findings to the university Senate, which approved the action during their 125th regular meeting.

According to a statement shared on Saturday by the school’s Head of Information and Protocol, Hajiya Fatima Sanda, the university also punished other students in different ways. Five students have been suspended for two semesters in the 2024/2025 academic session, and their exam results were canceled. Additionally, two students got official warnings that will stay in their school records permanently.

The university said it made these decisions based on recommendations from the examination committee and confirmed them through the school Senate.

“This is to warn other students to take exams seriously and follow the rules,” the school explained in its statement.

UMYU also added that they have a good record of holding fair and honest exams and warned that future cases of cheating will receive the same or even tougher punishment.
