Olympic athlete Sha’Carri Richardson arrested at airport over alleged domestic v!olence against involving boyfriend

Olympic sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson was reportedly arrested on Sunday, July 28, at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after a fight with her boyfriend, Christian Coleman, who is also a sprinter.

Reports from The Athletic said the incident happened at a TSA checkpoint where cameras caught Richardson pushing Coleman several times as he tried to walk away. Because of this, she was arrested and charged with fourth-degree domestic violence assault.

However, Coleman did not press any charges and told police he didn’t want to be treated as a victim.

Richardson was taken to SCORE South Correctional Facility in Des Moines, Washington. She spent nearly 19 hours in custody before being released on Monday, according to official records.

The arrest happened while both Richardson and Coleman were competing in the 2025 U.S. Track and Field Championships. Just days earlier, Richardson ran the women’s 100-meter race in 11.07 seconds and qualified for the semifinals. As the defending champion, she already has an automatic place in the upcoming World Championships.

Richardson and Coleman have reportedly been in a relationship for over two years, although they only made it public in February this year.

This is not the first time Richardson has been involved in a public incident. In 2023, she was removed from an American Airlines flight after arguing with a flight attendant. At the time, she said she was unfairly targeted after being asked to end a phone call and show that her phone was in airplane mode.

So far, Richardson has not said anything publicly about the recent incident at the airport.
