Nigerian music video director Clarence Peters recently said he forgave his father, music icon Shina Peters, before they ever talked about their issues. He said he came to that decision after realising he had made the same mistakes his father once made.
While speaking on a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Clarence shared that this moment of realisation happened around 2014 or 2015. He said it marked the point where he truly felt like he became an adult. Forgiving his father started his own journey into adulthood.
He explained that although he made the same mistakes as his dad, they didn’t have the same serious effects. According to him, time and technology played a big role in reducing the damage his actions could have caused.
Clarence said, “I made every single mistake my father made. I’m just lucky that time and tech saved me from it being as catastrophic as his own. So, the moment I realised that I forgave him instantly even before we had a conversation. That would be 2014/15. That was when I became an adult. That was when I began my journey into adulthood. I’m still on the journey. You’re always on the journey.”
Clarence is the son of well-known musician Shina Peters and famous Nollywood actress Clarion Chukwura. He comes from a family that has been in the spotlight for many years.
In a past interview, Clarence mentioned that his mother once thought about ending her pregnancy when she was carrying him. However, she later changed her mind because she believed Clarence was the spirit of her late father, who had died when she was only 11.
In an interview with Chude in February 2025, Clarence shared that he once felt like judging his dad for the way he treated his mother. But over time, he decided not to because he didn’t think it was his place to do so.
He also said he tries not to be like his father when it comes to women. Still, he admits that he’s not perfect and is doing his best to improve.
