Two arrested for throwing suspected chicken thief into burning fire

Two men have been taken into police custody in Nyamira County, Kenya, after a disturbing case of mob justice involving a suspected chicken thief.

The violent incident happened on July 26, 2025, in Matongo, Nyamira North. A man accused of stealing a chicken was brutally attacked by a group of people.

The two suspects, James Nyang’au Kieri and Evans Nyang’au Anyoka, were seen in a viral video that showed them beating the victim and throwing him into a burning fire.

The footage caused outrage online, with many calling for justice and condemning the act.

Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) confirmed the arrest of the suspects on July 30, 2025, after tracing them using forensic methods.

According to the DCI, both men are now being held by police and will soon face charges in court.

The National Police Service expressed serious concern over the growing number of mob justic8e cases across the country. They urged citizens to report crimes to the authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands.

They warned that anyone caught engaging in mob violence will face the full force of the law.
