Tinubu extends tenure of Customs CG

President Bola Tinubu has approved an extra year in office for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

Mr. Adeniyi was originally set to leave his position on August 31, 2025. However, with this new approval from the President, he will now continue to serve until August 2026.

A statement from the Presidency, released on July 31 by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, said the extension is to give Mr. Adeniyi more time to finish the reforms and major projects he has been working on under Tinubu’s leadership.

The ongoing projects include modernising the Nigeria Customs Service, launching the National Single Window Project, and carrying out Nigeria’s duties under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.

The Presidency also highlighted Mr. Adeniyi’s dedication and steady leadership since taking on the role. President Tinubu believes that keeping him in office longer will help the Nigeria Customs Service improve trade processes, raise revenue, and better protect Nigeria’s borders.
