Dino Melaye resigns from PDP

Former Kogi West lawmaker and 2023 governorship candidate, Dino Melaye, has officially pulled out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He blamed the decision on the party’s inability to tackle Nigeria’s worsening political challenges.

In a letter dated July 30, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye said he would no longer be involved in any party activities and that his resignation takes immediate effect.

“This decision has become necessary due to the lack of strength and capability by the party to rescue Nigerians from the current political cankerworms that have deeply affected the nation,” the letter partly read.

Melaye, a known political ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, followed in Atiku’s footsteps. The ex-VP had earlier resigned from the PDP this month as well.

Both Atiku and Melaye recently attended an event held by a political coalition that officially adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its new political platform.

However, the two politicians are yet to formally become card-carrying members of the ADC, even though they’ve thrown support behind the group’s movement.
