Professor Jerry Gana, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said that Peter Obi can win in Northern Nigeria if he runs for president under the PDP in 2027. He believes northern voters are fair and will support Obi if he’s the PDP candidate.
Gana made this statement during an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday night, July 31. His words come at a time when there are speculations that Obi may return to the PDP to pursue his presidential ambition.
He explained that Peter Obi’s best chance of becoming Nigeria’s president is by running on the PDP platform instead of any other party.
“I’m a researcher, and I research opinions. In the northern states, Peter Obi under the PDP will defeat any candidate, because our people are very fair-minded. In 2031, it will be the turn of the North. Our people are very fair and we are building a nation.”he said
Peter Obi had previously been a member of the PDP and was preparing to take part in the party’s presidential primary in 2022. However, just three days before the primary, he resigned from the party on May 25, 2022.
Two days later, on May 27, 2022, Obi joined the Labour Party (LP). He became the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general election, where he eventually came third in the final results.
Now, there is increasing talk that Obi could return to his former party ahead of the 2027 elections.
