The date and venue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage draw have now been confirmed. According to ESPN, the draw will take place on December 5 in Las Vegas.
FIFA chose Las Vegas as the host city for the event after deciding not to use locations in Canada or Mexico. This choice comes even though the tournament will take place across all three countries.
The 2026 World Cup will see 48 teams compete — an increase from the usual 32 teams in previous tournaments. This means more countries will get the chance to participate in football’s biggest event.
Pedro Cedillo, an executive from the Mexican football club Pachuca, mentioned that the draw is expected on December 5. He added that officials from his city and state need to be there to share details about their World Cup venues.
Interestingly, the Las Vegas Convention Center was also the location of the draw the last time the USA hosted the World Cup in 1994.
