Nigerian woman narrates how photos saved her from embarrassment after supermarket cashier accused her of stealing silk scarf

A Nigerian woman named Nsikak Effiong recently shared how she avoided embarrassment by using photos she had taken before leaving home.

Nsikak posted her story on Facebook on Monday, July 28. She explained that she went to a supermarket to buy some toiletries while wearing a silk scarf on her head.

When she got to the cashier to pay for her items, the cashier suddenly told her to include the scarf in her bill. Nsikak was surprised and didn’t understand why.

She calmly told the cashier that the scarf was hers and that she had worn it from home.

However, the cashier didn’t believe her. Instead, the cashier accused her of stealing the scarf and called her a thief.

“These pictures I took before leaving home saved me this morning. I had a quick errand to run. I got dressed and headed out. I tied this silk scarf. I had seen a video on Tiktok on how to style it. Having spent time this morning watching videos and finally getting it. It made sense to take a photo and make videos. That I did,” she wrote.

I did my errands and said to stop at a supermarket to pickup some toiletries. I picked and when it was time to pay. The cashier was telling me she has added the scarf price to my list. I said I don’t understand. Add it as how?

I told this girl that I came in with the scarf. She said that’s not true. That they sell the scarf. I said cool but I came in with this scarf. If I removed it from your supermarket it won’t be wrapped around my head the way it is. You can sniff it. My perfume is on it.

She called me a liar and started talking how all these fine girls sabi thief.

Ah! My head wan scatter. I removed the scarf and told her to scan it if it would come out on their system.

She said they don’t do that in their supermarket. I don wan open mouth to argue again. I remember I took plenty pictures and videos just before leaving the house. So I brought out my phone and showed her.

If I took this scarf from your supermarket. Why is it on my head in my house?

Silence. Talk na.

I sha tell am one bad word and she say God forbid.

I left everything I picked. And quietly left the supermarket.

Aaaaaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh!

I booked bolt and went to the supermarket I normally shop at. This time. I made sure to tie the scarf on my jeans and walked past the security so they can see me very well.
