It’s silly and petty – Charly Boy speaks on the renaming of the Charly Boy Bus Stop to Olamide bus stop by Bariga LCDA

Veteran musician and activist, Charles Oputa, also known as Charly Boy, has reacted to the recent decision to rename a bus stop named after him in Lagos. The Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga was recently renamed to Olamide Bus Stop in honour of rapper Olamide Adedeji, popularly called Olamide Badoo.

Charly Boy didn’t hold back his feelings. He said the decision was “a little silly and petty,” making it clear he wasn’t impressed by the change.

Last Friday, the chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) announced the new name. According to him, the council plans to start naming locations after people from Bariga who are doing great things in Nigeria and around the world.

Charly Boy responded in an interview with News Central on Sunday, July 28, where he expressed his disappointment. He believes the move to remove his name from the bus stop was unnecessary and not done in good faith.

‘’The fact that my bus stop was renamed is neither here nor there. Whatever we can do to help Nigerians, this is what it is about. I just believe that was a little bit silly, a little bit petty because if it is about talking about what one has done for that community, go and verify, you can’t touch my records”
