American singer Ciara has officially become a citizen of the West African country, Benin.

She was granted citizenship on July 26, 2025, during a special event held to celebrate United Nations Day for Women and Girls of African Descent. The ceremony honored her connection to the country after she traced her ancestral roots there.

The citizenship was presented to her during a public ceremony, with many people watching as she proudly received her certificate.

On July 28, Ciara posted videos from the special day on her Instagram page. She ended her post with the proud words, “I am Beninoise,” confirming her new identity as a citizen of Benin.
