Three d!e in Taraba boat mishap

A tragic boat accident in Taraba State has claimed the lives of three people, with many others still missing.

The incident happened around 7pm on Friday in the Gassol area, where commuters have been using boats to cross the river following the collapse of the Namnai Bridge.

The boat was reportedly carrying both passengers and vehicles when it capsized.

According to Jidda Mayoreniyo, chairman of the Inland Water Transporters in Taraba, the vessel went under while attempting to transport people across the river.

Rescue workers were able to recover four vehicles from the river.

While some of the passengers were saved, several remain unaccounted for, raising fears that the death toll could rise.

Passengers also lost their personal items and luggage in the accident.

Most of these items have not been recovered, making the tragedy even more painful for the victims and their families.

The Namnai Bridge, which collapsed more than a year ago, has not yet been fixed.

This has left residents with no choice but to rely on boats for daily transportation.

Many locals say this alternative is becoming increasingly dangerous, as shown by this heartbreaking incident.
