Activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has openly disagreed with the Lagos State Government over its recent decision to rename some streets and public places in the city.
A video currently spreading on social media shows government officials changing the name of the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop to “Olamide Baddo Bus Stop.” This sudden change has sparked reactions across the state and beyond.
Many residents and Nigerians online are angry about the change. They believe it’s not really about improving the city but is more of a political move meant to benefit certain people or groups.
Reacting to the situation, Sowore released a statement on Saturday where he strongly condemned the renaming. He said it looks like a deliberate plan to create division among people, especially targeting certain ethnic groups and those who don’t support the ruling APC party in Lagos.
According to Sowore, the way the renaming is being done makes it clear that this is not about better city planning. Instead, he believes it is a way to punish political rivals.
He reminded everyone that Lagos State doesn’t belong to just one tribe. He called on the government to cancel the changes and respect the diversity of the city.
Sowore also urged the public to resist what he described as a slow but dangerous move toward dictatorship that is being disguised as good governance.
In his final words, Sowore warned that people must not remain quiet while Lagos is being used for tribal and political battles. He said everyone has a duty to speak up and defend the true spirit of unity in the city.
