Former Super Eagles star Ogenyi Onazi joins Italian Serie D club aged 32

Former Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has signed with Italian Serie D team Acireale. The 32-year-old continues his football career by joining the fourth-tier club in Italy.

The club confirmed his signing but did not share details about the length or terms of his contract.

Onazi started his professional journey in Italy with Serie A side Lazio. He played there for four years and was part of the squad that won the Coppa Italia during the 2012/2013 season. He featured in 76 games for the club and scored four goals in total.

After his time at Lazio, Onazi moved to Turkey where he joined Trabzonspor. He later helped them win the Turkish Cup in the 2019/2020 season. He also played for Denizlispor in Turkey, Lithuanian club Zalgiris Vilnius, and lower-division Italian teams Casertana and Avezzano.

He was an important member of the Nigerian national team that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa. Onazi also represented Nigeria at the FIFA World Cup tournaments in Brazil in 2014 and Russia in 2018.
