The Federal Government has reached out to Nigerians who were left stranded in the Central African Republic (CAR).
In a statement shared on Friday, July 25, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Nigerian officials in Bangui, the capital of CAR, have contacted the affected citizens.
The Nigerian Embassy in Bangui is now working hand-in-hand with local authorities to make sure the stranded Nigerians are safe and protected. Their passports have been retrieved, and a vehicle has been sent to pick them up from Bambari, the town where they were abandoned. According to the statement, they are expected to arrive in Bangui on Saturday, July 26, under military escort.
This help comes after a video went viral showing Nigerian workers who were left behind by their employers and agents in Bambari—a town about 850 kilometers from the capital. The embassy has started discussions with the company that brought them to CAR, hoping to arrange temporary shelter and basic care for them in Bangui before they return to Nigeria.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs repeated its promise to protect the rights and dignity of all Nigerians, no matter where they are in the world. It also advised anyone planning to work abroad to carefully check if their employer is legitimate and to travel with the right documents.
Finally, Nigerians living or working in other countries are urged to register themselves—and their workers, if any—with the Nigerian Embassy in that country. This will make it easier to assist them during emergencies.
