Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who once worked as a political adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has said that Tinubu only wanted to become president for selfish reasons. According to him, Tinubu’s interest in the presidency was never about helping the country or solving its problems. Instead, he just wanted to achieve a personal goal, just like previous leaders who also failed to bring real change.
He criticized Tinubu’s administration for having nothing meaningful to show after spending trillions of naira. Baba-Ahmed said this money could have been used to support small businesses and create jobs, but instead, the government wasted it. The only thing they can point to, he said, is an uncompleted road project, which is not enough for a country in need.
Baba-Ahmed explained that the popular campaign slogan “emilokan,” which means “it’s my turn,” came from a tribal mindset. He said the slogan was not based on leadership ability but on a belief that it was simply Tinubu’s turn to rule. He pointed out that while many people praise Tinubu’s political skills, no one sees him as a good leader who actually improves people’s lives. His focus, according to Baba-Ahmed, is on gaining power and not on serving the nation.
He also said that anyone planning to vote for Tinubu again in 2027 is either getting something from the bad leadership, is a tribal or religious supporter, or is not thinking straight. Baba-Ahmed questioned how someone could go through hunger, joblessness, insecurity, and suffering, and still vote for the same person responsible for their pain.
He concluded by saying Nigerians are watching closely to see how many people will still choose hardship and failed leadership in the next election. He believes no sane person should willingly continue supporting a government that has caused so much pain and made life harder for ordinary citizens.
