Tragedy struck in Ogun State on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, when a speeding car killed four young boys from Iddo Primary School, Kobape. The sad event happened around 3 p.m. as the children were returning home after school.
According to witnesses, the children were walking along the walkway in Sowo village when a Toyota Corolla lost control and ran into them. The impact was so severe that all four pupils died immediately at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle was almost attacked by angry youths who witnessed the crash, but he was saved by security officers who arrived quickly to prevent further violence.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), confirmed that the accident involved a Toyota Corolla with plate number KSF 579 DM. He said the car was moving too fast when it veered off the road and struck the children.
Emergency responders took the victims to the General Hospital in Ijaiye, where doctors confirmed they had passed away. Their bodies were later handed over to their families for burial.
As news of the accident spread, upset residents of the community blocked the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway in protest. The protest caused serious traffic along the road.
However, officials from TRACE, the police, and the Nigerian Army worked together to calm the situation and clear the road. Traffic returned to normal after their joint effort.
This heartbreaking incident has raised concerns again about road safety and the need for drivers to be more careful—especially near schools and residential areas.
