French President Emmanuel Macron sues Candace Owens over her claims that his wife Brigitte could be a man

French President Emmanuel Macron has taken legal action against American right-wing media figure, Candace Owens. The lawsuit accuses her of spreading false stories about his wife, Brigitte Macron, including claims that she may be a man.

Macron filed 22 defamation charges against Owens. The case says Owens intentionally tried to embarrass and damage the Macrons’ reputation all over the world, while also making money from the attention.

It started when Owens released a video in March 2025 titled “Is France’s First Lady a Man?”. After that, she continued with several more videos, pushing the same claim.

The lawsuit also says Owens made money by selling products linked to these false claims. Even when she was shown clear proof—like documents and public records—that Brigitte Macron is a woman, Owens kept posting more content about the story.

The Macrons say the false claims have cost them financially. They say they’ve lost business deals and other opportunities because of the lies. They are now asking the court to award them money for the damage.

Back in early 2024, Owens said she would risk her whole career on her belief that Brigitte Macron is a man. Since then, she’s repeated the claim many times, even creating a podcast series titled Becoming Brigitte that spread more of the same lies.

The Macrons tried several times to get Owens to take back her words. But instead of apologizing or stopping, Owens mocked their efforts and used them to make even more content for her followers.

The lawsuit explains that Owens didn’t just say Brigitte was born male. She also claimed that Brigitte stole someone else’s identity, that she and Emmanuel Macron are related by blood, and that Macron was chosen as president through a secret U.S. mind-control program. She even accused them of committing crimes to hide these secrets.

The Macrons said they didn’t want to sue at first, but Owens left them no choice. They say going to court is their only remaining option to stop the lies.

The false claims have caused them great embarrassment across the world. The couple said they’ve had to spend large amounts of money to correct the damage and defend their names. Even in public, they now worry that people believe the lies.

They said the situation feels deeply unfair and makes their everyday life harder. The emotional impact, along with the global humiliation, has been very painful.

The Macrons are prepared to appear in a U.S. courtroom in Delaware for the trial. Their lawyers come from Clare Locke, a top law firm that has handled other major defamation cases like the one between Dominion and Fox News.

Before this lawsuit, the Macrons sent three different requests to Owens, asking her to take back her statements and showing her clear evidence that the rumors were false. But Owens used those requests to insult them even more and continued spreading false stories.

Now, the Macrons hope that going to court will finally put an end to the harmful lies and give them peace.
