Coach Eric Chelle has released the final list of 23 players who will represent Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The football competition will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
The team is made up of three goalkeepers, seven defenders, six midfielders, and seven forwards. The players will leave Nigeria for Zanzibar on Thursday, July 24, where they’ll continue their training before the tournament begins.
Nigeria is placed in Group D and will face strong teams like Senegal, who are the current champions, as well as Congo and Sudan. The last time Nigeria played in CHAN was in 2018, when they got to the final but lost 4–0 to Morocco, who hosted that year.
This year’s CHAN will take place from August 2 to August 30. The tournament was originally planned for earlier this year, but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) moved the date to give the hosts more time to get ready. There were also worries about the stadiums in Kenya not being finished on time.
Here is the full list of the players who will represent Nigeria at CHAN 2024:
