Mourinho, who has managed big clubs like Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester United, wants Paris Saint-Germain players Vitinha and Nuno Mendes to win the award.

Both Vitinha and Mendes are Portuguese like Mourinho. He believes they deserve the Ballon d’Or more than Barcelona’s young talent, Lamine Yamal, or even PSG winger, Ousmane Dembele.

In a recent interview with Canal11, Mourinho said he knows his choice might upset his agent, Jorge Mendes. That’s because Jorge Mendes represents Lamine Yamal and thinks the Barcelona star should win the award.

Mourinho explained that for him, individual awards like the Ballon d’Or should always be connected to a player’s achievements with their team.

“I love both Vitinha and Mendes,” Mourinho said. “I can’t really choose between them. But it’s hard to find full-backs like Mendes nowadays, and Vitinha is part of a strong group of midfielders.”

He added that he’d like one of them to win, even if it annoys Jorge Mendes.

At the moment, many fans are supporting Lamine Yamal and Dembele to win the Ballon d’Or this year.

But Vitinha, Mendes, and Dembele all helped PSG have an amazing season. They won three domestic trophies, lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy, and even reached the final of the FIFA Club World Cup. However, they lost that match to Chelsea.

Still, with such strong performances, Mourinho feels it’s only fair that players like Vitinha or Mendes are recognized.
