PDP crisis: Wike’s friend back-stabbed him – Datti Baba-Ahmed

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, who was the Labour Party’s vice presidential candidate in the last election, has shared his opinion on the crisis going on in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He believes that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, may have a valid reason for the way he has been behaving in the party.

Datti made this statement during an appearance on Arise TV’s Prime Time programme. He explained that Wike had made huge sacrifices for the PDP, but the party didn’t treat him fairly in return.

According to him, Wike held the party together during difficult times when many other leaders were nowhere to be found. Yet, at a very crucial moment, someone who was a close friend to Wike turned against him.

Although Datti said he does not support all of Wike’s recent actions, he believes Wike’s pain and frustration are understandable. He said Wike is most likely acting based on how deeply hurt he feels by those he once trusted.

He pointed to a specific incident that happened at Eagle Square. In front of everyone, Wike was betrayed by a close ally—even though Wike had always stood by the party.

Datti said Wike may see this betrayal as something done by two northern politicians who are of Hausa-Fulani background and Muslim faith. In Wike’s mind, he may believe that they ganged up against him, and now he wants to fight back.

Datti added that anyone who feels such deep betrayal will definitely react. He said what happened to Wike was simply not fair, and politicians should be careful with the games they play. Betrayal can push someone to a breaking point.

He reminded people that Wike had a strong friendship with those who betrayed him, going all the way back to 2011. After everything he did for them, they turned against him when it mattered most. Datti warned that because of this, Wike may now be ready to destroy the party out of anger and disappointment.

In Datti’s words, Wike is a human being, and anyone in his shoes would likely react in a similar way.
