Michelle Obama playfully pokes fun at Barack Obama’s presidential ambitions that brought her fame and fortune

Michelle Obama recently shared a funny moment about her husband Barack’s presidential dream, saying it was something she once questioned but later watched come true in a big way.

She revealed that before Barack Obama became the President of the United States—and served two full terms—his ambition seemed a little far-fetched, even to her.

Michelle made this playful comment during the latest episode of her podcast IMO, which she co-hosts with her brother, Craig Robinson.

Her joke came after singer Victoria Monét talked about being shy to tell others she wanted to be a singer. Michelle said she could relate to that feeling.

She laughed and said, “It’s like my husband saying, ‘I want to be President of the United States,’” and added, “No, you might want to keep that to yourself, honey.”

Michelle also opened up about her own career path. She spoke about the risks she took and how stepping away from law changed her life.

She explained that after graduating from Harvard Law School, she joined a big law firm in Chicago because it was the expected next step and she had student loans.

However, the job didn’t make her happy. It paid well, but she said it felt “soul crushing.” That’s when she realized she hadn’t tried anything else yet.

So, she left that job and began working in public service. The pay was less, but she enjoyed the work because it involved connecting with people and helping the community.

One job led to another—starting from working under the deputy chief of staff to joining the planning and development office.

Eventually, she moved away from law entirely and never returned. That bold move shaped the fulfilling career path she has today.
