The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has made fun of Peter Obi, Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, for serving food at a party. He said Obi’s action was shameful and only meant to trick people into thinking he is humble.
Wike made the comments during the launch of the New Edo Line Transport Service in Benin City. He said it is not proper for someone who wants to be president to be serving food in public, asking how long Obi plans to keep doing that. He questioned why people were clapping and laughing at the act, saying it was not true humility.
He went further to question Obi’s claim that he would fly with commercial airlines if he became president. Wike said no security team would allow that to happen and accused Obi of not being honest.
Wike also pointed out that Obi never served food when he was governor, but now that elections are near, he has started doing it. He accused Nigerians of liking to be fooled by people who pretend to be simple.
Wike also supported Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, who had earlier warned Obi to get security clearance before visiting the state again.
The governor had said that Obi’s last visit to the state, where he donated N15 million to a nursing school, ended in violence. He claimed at least four people died during that time.
Wike agreed with the governor’s statement. He said Okpebholo’s advice was not to stop Obi from coming, but to protect him. Wike stressed that the governor only wanted to ensure Obi’s safety.
He also said that some people are trying to twist the governor’s words. According to Wike, these people are being paid to go on television and lie to the public.
