The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Jarret Tenebe, has stated that Peter Obi cannot enter Edo State without first getting permission from Governor Monday Okpebholo. He said this because, according to him, many people in Edo strongly dislike the former Labour Party presidential candidate.
Governor Okpebholo had earlier made a similar statement during a political rally held last Friday. He declared that Peter Obi must always inform him and get approval before stepping into Edo State.
After this statement went public, it sparked widespread criticism. Many Nigerians on social media saw it as a threat, claiming it was wrong to say a politician needs permission just to visit any part of the country.
But Jarret Tenebe doubled down on the governor’s remarks during a press conference over the weekend. He openly backed the governor and claimed that Obi is not welcomed by many people in the state, including himself. According to him, the level of hatred people in Edo have for Peter Obi justifies the need for such caution.
Tenebe’s support for the governor’s demand has added more tension to the political atmosphere in the state, especially as the 2027 elections approach.
