Dumebi Kachikwu, who was the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has shared new information about the political coalition ahead of 2027. According to him, Peter Obi and other presidential hopefuls now understand that the coalition is being secretly organized to promote former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
He explained that many of these politicians, including Obi, have started to back away because they now see the real purpose of the coalition. It’s no longer just about unity — it’s about helping Atiku’s political comeback.
Even though Peter Obi has not officially left the Labour Party, he confirmed in a recent interview that he remains a committed member. However, his presence at some coalition meetings has sparked curiosity and raised eyebrows.
Interestingly, a faction of the Labour Party that supports Obi, led by Usman Nenadi, recently said they are not part of any coalition. Darlington Nwokocha, who acts as the interim national secretary of this group, made it clear on Friday that the Labour Party has nothing to do with the ADC-led alliance — despite Obi’s appearance at some coalition events.
Peter Obi has also publicly stated his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election. This has made people question whether the coalition can survive if major figures like Obi are stepping back or showing mixed signals.
While speaking on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,” Kachikwu insisted that he will take back control of the ADC. He believes that the party is being used as a political tool to support Atiku’s ambition.
Kachikwu explained that he had warned people before that the entire ADC structure was being repackaged to support Atiku. He said politicians like Obi now see the truth, and are quietly moving in different directions.
He stressed that what is being called a coalition is not really about working together, but about promoting one person’s political dream. According to him, the ADC should not — and will not — be used for such a purpose.
When asked if he could stop something that appears too strong to fight, Kachikwu confidently responded that “the storm has already been contained.”
