Shamsuddeen Bala Mohammed, the son of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, is in the middle of a social media controversy. He used harsh and offensive words on Twitter after someone accused him of corruption and using his father’s power for personal benefits.
Using his verified Twitter handle, @shamsudeen_bala, he replied angrily to a user named Malaika, who had claimed that Shamsuddeen was taking advantage of his father’s political position.
In his angry reply, Shamsuddeen said terrible things about Malaika’s mother and made disrespectful personal remarks. One of his tweets said, “Are you sick in the head?!… I allege your mother is a whore and you are a bastard child, and that also makes it true.”
Malaika’s original comment had questioned Shamsuddeen’s hunger for political control and hinted at shady behaviour. The insult-filled response from Shamsuddeen quickly went viral and attracted negative attention.
This is not the first time Shamsuddeen’s behaviour has sparked public anger. His actions have caused problems not just with the public and media, but also within his own family.
In a past incident, a lecturer named Dr. Abubakar Ahmad was arrested after sharing a video of Shamsuddeen dancing with his wife. That incident caused a family crisis and raised issues about land grabbing and questionable contract awards allegedly linked to Shamsuddeen and the governor’s wife. Activist Omoyele Sowore also pointed these out.
Governor Bala Mohammed was reportedly unhappy with his son’s behaviour. According to sources, he told Shamsuddeen privately, “I have warned you many times to stop acting childish in public, but you don’t listen.”
The latest scandal has caused shame among extended family members. One relative, Mutawakkil Adamu Mohammed, openly said, “Shamsu has embarrassed our whole family.”
