No governor can block our movement across Nigeria – ADC fires at Edo, Benue Govs

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stated clearly that no governor has the power to stop its leaders from moving around or operating in any part of Nigeria.

According to the party, Nigeria belongs to all its citizens, and not just those who currently hold political office.

The ADC made this statement in reaction to reports that some governors are threatening to prevent certain party leaders, including Peter Obi, from visiting their states.

During a press conference held on Saturday, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, condemned the actions of the governors of Edo and Benue States. He said their behavior is undemocratic and goes against the spirit of free political engagement.

He also noted that such statements reflect a dictatorial mindset, especially among governors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abdullahi described the threats as something one would expect from traditional rulers, not from elected leaders in a democratic setting.

He said it is troubling that political activities have not officially started, yet some governors are already trying to shut out opposition voices.

According to him, the states do not belong to the governors. They belong to the Nigerian people. He urged both Nigerians and the international community to keep a close eye on these developments.

He also accused the ruling party of trying to turn Nigeria into a one-party state. Since that plan failed, he said, they are now using fear and threats to silence the opposition by saying some party leaders cannot enter certain states.

Abdullahi made it clear that the ADC does not need permission from any governor to visit any part of Nigeria. He reminded everyone that Nigeria is a free country, and every citizen has the right to move around freely.

He ended by saying that the party will go wherever they choose, because no governor has the right to stop them.
