Victor Boniface couldn’t find the back of the net as Bayer Leverkusen were beaten 5-1 by Flamengo’s under-20 team in a pre-season game on Friday.
It was the first match in charge for Erik ten Hag, who is now the new coach of Bayer Leverkusen.
Ten Hag, who was removed as Manchester United coach in October, got the Leverkusen job this summer after Xabi Alonso stepped down.
He chose a strong line-up and continued using the same 3-4-2-1 formation that Alonso used last season. New goalkeeper Mark Flekken, Jonas Hofmann, and Boniface were all in the starting team.
Flamengo’s young players scored four goals in the first half. Lorran scored the first, and then Arthur made a mistake and put the ball into his own net.
Flekken and Boniface were taken off in the 36th minute. Flamengo then scored more goals through Matheus Goncalves and Pedro Leao.
Gusttavo added the fifth goal, but Leverkusen got one back when Montrell Culbreath scored their only goal of the match.
