The daughters of late former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari have shown appreciation to Nigerians who chose to forgive their father while he was alive.
President Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 13, in a hospital in London after battling an illness that was not publicly disclosed.
In a conversation with BBC Hausa, one of his daughters, Aisha Buhari, popularly known as Hanan, shared the pain of losing her father. She said his death felt like she had lost a part of her own body.
“What I will miss most about him is his sense of humour. I look up to him as a part of me,” she explained.
Hanan also used the moment to thank Nigerians who let go of any wrongs they felt the late president had done to them.
She said her father meant well for the country and described him as someone who lived like an average citizen, close to the people.
“That disciplined me to study, pray, and do things that made us happy,” she said.
Speaking as the eldest daughter, Hadiza Muhammadu Buhari, also called Nana, said their father loved Nigerians deeply and was always thinking about their welfare.
“During his treatment, I went to London to check on him. After he got better, I decided to return to Nigeria. When I told him, ‘Dad, I’m going,’ he said, ‘Where are you going?”
I told him I was returning to Nigeria, and he said, ‘Greet Nigerians,” she explained.
