Police in Ondo State have confirmed that Mr. Adeniran Ezekiel Imoleayo, the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), was killed after being poisoned by two unknown men in Akure.
The sad incident happened on July 16, 2025, at Mr. Adeniran’s home in the Olopa to Di Woli area, which is along Ondo Road in Akure.
According to police sources who spoke to security expert Zagazola Makama, the Registrar had stepped out of his house to check a strange sound coming from his roof. That was when two men suddenly came out of a nearby bush and attacked him.
The attackers reportedly overpowered him and forced him to drink a liquid that is believed to be poison. After doing this, they ran away from the scene.
Later, Mr. Adeniran’s driver, Mr. Olowoyo Odunayo Adewale, found him lying unconscious in the compound. He quickly rushed him to the Police Hospital in Akure, but doctors there confirmed that he was already dead.
His body has now been taken to Divine Haven Mortuary in Akure for preservation and autopsy. Meanwhile, police detectives have visited the area to carry out more investigations.
The police said the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for deeper investigation.
Also, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area led a team of officers to a suspected hideout where they arrested one person linked to the crime.
That suspect is now in the hands of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and is being questioned further by the police.
Mr. Adeniran was only recently made the Registrar of UNIMED. The Governing Council of the school appointed him during its 23rd meeting on August 22, 2024.
He officially started his duties as Registrar on January 6, 2025.
