Liverpool immortalise Diogo Jota with touching online tribute after his tragic de@th at 28

Liverpool Football Club has shown deep respect to their late striker, Diogo Jota, by creating a special section on their official website in his memory. This follows the tragic news of Jota’s death after a car crash in northern Spain.

Jota and his younger brother, Andre Silva, sadly lost their lives in a car accident that happened in the early morning of July 3.

The Portuguese striker had just recently tied the knot with his childhood love in a joyful wedding ceremony in Portugal before the tragedy struck.

As part of their mourning, Liverpool decided to retire Jota’s No. 20 jersey across all team levels. This decision was made after discussions with his wife and close family.

The tribute didn’t stop there. Liverpool added a new section on their website under the first-team squad list, where Jota’s name now appears under a new category called “forever.”

When fans visit his profile, they will find a heartfelt message that ends with the touching words: “He will always be our number 20.”

Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot, spoke about Jota’s passing in his first interview. He said retiring Jota’s shirt number was a small but meaningful way to honour him.

Slot added that the team will always remember Jota—especially during hard times. “We’ll carry him in our hearts and thoughts always,” he said.

In addition to the online tribute, a beautiful mural has been painted near Liverpool’s home ground, Anfield, to remember Jota.

The mural was created by artist John Culshaw. It shows Jota with a bright smile, making a heart shape with his hands—a gesture fans had grown to love.

This tribute helps keep Jota’s memory alive and reminds everyone of the joy he brought to the pitch and to fans around the world.
