Two sisters from Ebonyi State, Juliet Chukwu and Ngozi Nancy Chukwu, have been arrested by the police in Enugu for reportedly planning the kidnapping of their own brother, Mr. Friday Chukwu.
The sisters, who are said to be the younger siblings of the victim, are from Amaeze village in the Ishiagu area of Ivo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.
Reports say Juliet works for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), while Ngozi is with the Nigeria Immigration Service. However, this information has not been confirmed by the authorities at the time of writing.
Investigations showed that with the help of the sisters, their brother was kidnapped last month on the Enugu-Port Harcourt road, near the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital at Ituku-Ozalla in Enugu.
Because of their actions and secret influence, their brother was released only after a ransom of N30 million was paid by the family.
It was also discovered that the sisters were behind the recent kidnapping of Dennis Igwe, the General Manager of China Oriental Mining Company, who was taken from the same area.
They were eventually caught in a hotel where they had gone to share N10 million ransom paid for Dennis Igwe’s release.
A social media user, Comrade Chika Nwoba, confirmed the arrest and urged security agencies not to treat the case lightly.
He explained that Mr. Friday Chukwu was kidnapped in June and that both sisters were suspected to be involved, as they work in top security positions. He said N30 million was paid for his release.
He also mentioned that on July 14, 2025, the CLO of China Oriental Quarry, Engineer Denis Igwe, was kidnapped in the same area and that the sisters were caught while sharing the ransom money in a hotel.
According to him, the sisters have long been suspected of helping criminals in the area. They were accused of working with Fulani herders to stage kidnappings and of being involved in crimes like stealing railway tracks and damaging oil pipelines. He asked that this case not be ignored like others in the past.
The Chairman of Ivo Local Government in Ebonyi, Chief Emmanuel Ajah, confirmed the arrest. He said although the kidnapping happened outside his area, he had written to both the Enugu Police Command and Ebonyi’s NSCDC to take action.
He also added that the sisters are among six suspects, and four others are still being searched for. He promised that his office is working hard to keep the community safe.
