Speed Darlington sues NAPTIP for declaring him ‘wanted’; demands N3bn damages

Nigerian singer Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Achakpo Okoye, has sued the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for declaring him wanted.

The lawsuit was filed on July 9, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Speed Darlington’s lawyers are demanding N3 billion as compensation, claiming that NAPTIP’s actions have seriously harmed his image.

On June 27, NAPTIP announced through their official Instagram page that the singer was wanted for serious accusations such as rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.

“WANTED BY NAPTIP. Darlington Okoye, aka Speed Darlington, is wanted in connection with alleged offences including rape, cyberbullying and cyberstalking. Anyone with credible information on his whereabouts is urged to contact NAPTIP immediately.”

In his legal documents, Speed Darlington said that these accusations were false and that being declared wanted has affected both his reputation and personal safety. He asked the court to stop NAPTIP from acting on that public post again.

NAPTIP declared him wanted after he refused to appear before them regarding a video he posted on Instagram. In the video, he claimed to have slept with a minor at a hotel, which sparked public outrage.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) stepped in and passed the case to NAPTIP for proper investigation.

Although Speed Darlington later said the video was just a prank, NAPTIP insisted he needed to report to their office in Abuja. The singer defended himself by saying that controversy is part of how entertainers stay relevant. He also apologized to anyone who felt offended by the video.
