President Bola Tinubu has approved a number of activities to honour the late President Muhammadu Buhari. As part of the mourning events, a special and expanded Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting will be held today at 5 PM at the Council Chambers in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Before the meeting, a Third Day prayer will be held at Buhari’s residence in Daura, Katsina State. The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, will lead a team of Federal Government officials and cabinet ministers to attend the prayer session.
The special FEC session will not just involve ministers but will also include leaders from the National Assembly—both the Senate and the House of Representatives—as well as members of the Judiciary. Buhari’s family will also have representatives at the meeting.
In addition to today’s events, more memorial activities have been planned. On Friday, July 18, there will be a special Muslim prayer held at the National Mosque in Abuja. Then on Sunday, July 20, a Christian service will be held to honour Buhari’s life and service to the country.
These events show the government’s effort to give the late president a fitting farewell and to celebrate his contributions to Nigeria.
