Bashir Ahmad, who used to speak for former President Muhammadu Buhari, responded to online attacks after he posted pictures of himself with Peter Obi in Daura, Katsina State.
Peter Obi visited Daura on July 16 to offer condolences to Buhari’s family, one day after the late president was buried. While there, he met Bashir Ahmad, even though the two are known to have opposing political views.
Later that same day, Bashir shared photos of their meeting. This upset many people believed to support Peter Obi. They criticized Bashir for taking pictures with someone he has publicly criticized several times.
Reacting to the criticism, Bashir explained how he met Obi and said he only acted respectfully by taking a photo with someone who came to mourn his former boss. He didn’t see anything wrong with that.
He also shared his opinion that Obi’s supporters, known as “Obidients,” are making it difficult for Obi to win more supporters. According to him, their habit of attacking anyone who isn’t part of their group may stop Obi from building the kind of broad support needed to become president.
