The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). According to the APC, this move doesn’t worry them at all.
APC’s spokesperson in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, said that even if Atiku moves to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), it won’t affect APC’s position or strength going into the 2027 general elections.
Atiku officially resigned from the PDP on Wednesday, saying that the problems within the party couldn’t be settled. For some time, he had shown signs of being unhappy with how the PDP had become disorganised after the last election and failed to play the role of an effective opposition.
Interestingly, Atiku’s political group had just adopted the PDP as their platform for the 2027 elections. But with his resignation, it seems he is now getting ready to work more closely with the ADC.
Oladejo called Atiku’s move desperate but not surprising. He believes it shows how weak and divided the opposition has become. He also said that the PDP is falling apart and that Atiku continues to switch parties too often.
He added that Atiku is only chasing personal ambition and not driven by any real political beliefs. Whether Atiku joins PDP, ADC, or any other party, Oladejo believes Nigerians are politically aware and will not be easily swayed.
He concluded by saying that the APC remains the only party that is focused on real development, improving the economy, and building strong infrastructure for the country.
