A former lawmaker, Dachung Bagos, has said that a few people appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari did not live up to the trust he placed in them. Instead, they made the fight against corruption even harder. He shared this during a live appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today, just after Buhari was buried in his hometown, Daura, in Katsina State.
Bagos explained that although Buhari tried to choose trustworthy people to work with him, many of them later disappointed him. He said Nigerians once saw Buhari as a man of strong values who would lead the fight against corruption. But now, several former officials in Buhari’s administration are being investigated for corrupt practices.
He also said Buhari’s mistake was not closely watching those he appointed. This lack of proper supervision made it difficult to keep corruption under control during his time in office.
Bagos added that while many Nigerians respected Buhari’s honesty, the security problems that happened during his presidency made it hard for people to notice his other efforts.
