Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai visited the home of late President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, to console his family. The visit took place on Wednesday, shortly after the news of Buhari’s passing.
Buhari reportedly died in London, United Kingdom, at one of the country’s most expensive private hospitals. The news broke earlier in the week and caused reactions from Nigerians both at home and abroad.
Buhari, who was born in Katsina, held power as both a military ruler and as Nigeria’s democratic President from 2015 to 2023. His time in office had a big impact on the country’s politics and governance.
During his presidency, he traveled several times abroad for medical reasons. In total, Buhari spent over 225 days outside Nigeria for health treatment. One of his longest medical stays was in 2017 when he spent 104 days in London. Although many speculated about his health condition, no official explanation was given.
Before his death, Buhari had spent about 10 to 14 days at the London clinic. He was later buried on Tuesday in his hometown, Daura, where many family members, friends, and political figures gathered to say their goodbyes. His passing marks the end of a major chapter in Nigeria’s leadership history.
