Angela Peters, a 56-year-old Australian woman with five children and 12 grandchildren, has surprised many people after giving birth to twin girls. Her story has gone viral online, with many people arguing whether to call her a mum or a grandmother. In 2019, Angela made a big decision to leave her husband after many years of marriage.
She said she was unhappy for a long time and wanted a fresh start. Instead of settling down, she chose to look for love and even considered having more children, something most people wouldn’t expect from someone her age.
In 2020, she joined an online dating platform and met a Nigerian man named Emeka. But it was Emeka’s brother, Bright, who really caught her attention when she saw him in a family photo. Angela said she felt something strong immediately and believed he was the right one for her.
Although they were in different countries — Angela in Australia and Bright in South Africa — they talked every day. In 2021, Angela flew to Nigeria to meet Bright in person. He proposed to her the very next day, and they got married only nine days later.
Angela’s family couldn’t believe what was happening. Some thought she had been tricked, while others believed the relationship was moving too fast. But Angela was sure of her decision, and Bright was serious about their love too.
Even though Angela had accepted that her days of having babies were over, she knew that Bright had never fathered a child. So, she started looking into IVF treatment. She found out that in Australia, IVF is not allowed after the age of 52. Still determined, she and Bright found a fertility clinic in Nigeria that was willing to help them using a donor egg and Bright’s sperm.
In December 2023, they got the exciting news — Angela was pregnant with twins. In August 2024, she gave birth to two healthy girls, named Khorus and Knowyn. Despite her age, Angela quickly adjusted to caring for newborns again — feeding, changing nappies, and waking up at night.
When she shared her story on TikTok, thanks to one of her daughters encouraging her, people online had mixed reactions. Some called her brave and inspiring, while others said it was selfish to have children so late in life. Angela fired back, saying that no one complains when men become fathers in their 60s.
She said it’s her life, her happiness, and her decision. Many people assume she’s the twins’ grandmother, but Angela just smiles because she knows the truth and feels proud. Her story is one of love, hope, and second chances.
She wants other women to know that it’s never too late to find love, start over, or even become a mum again. Angela says she took a big risk by falling in love across borders, but now she feels blessed, with two little girls and a heart full of joy.
