Joe Igbokwe, a top member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has spoken out against Nigerians who were happy about the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Reports from Daily Post show that Nigerians have had mixed reactions to Buhari’s passing. While some are mourning, others are openly rejoicing, blaming Buhari for making life difficult for them while he was in office.
It was also reported that some people were seen celebrating soon after the announcement of Buhari’s death. The news was shared by President Bola Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga.
Reacting to this on Facebook, Igbokwe questioned why people would celebrate the death of someone who once led them. He was clearly upset and disappointed with their behavior.
He said mocking the dead is foolish, especially since everyone will die someday. Igbokwe described the act as a sign of growing stupidity in society.
In his own words, Igbokwe wrote, “Our stupidity is getting to the point of no return. We have just added another terrible character to our tradition by mocking the dead as if we will live for 1000 years. I pray that even this ugly and horrible behavior will pass away.”
Buhari’s body is expected to arrive in Nigeria for burial in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, later today, Tuesday.
