The body of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has reached his hometown, Daura, from Katsina ahead of his final burial taking place today.
Earlier in the day, Buhari’s body arrived at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina from the United Kingdom. The reception was held with full honors. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State, and members of Buhari’s family were all present to receive the late leader’s remains.
After the official welcome at the airport, the body was taken to Daura in a special ambulance. Security was tight along the way. Many people stood by the roadside to show respect as the convoy passed.
Buhari had served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later returned to lead the country as a civilian president from 2015 to 2023. He passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London at the age of 82 after a short illness.
In line with Islamic customs, Buhari will be buried today at his private home in Daura.
Many top dignitaries, traditional rulers, politicians, and well-wishers have gathered in Daura for his Janazah (funeral) prayer and final burial. Security agencies are on ground to make sure the event is peaceful and well-organized.
