Aregbesola vows to unseat Adeleke in Osun 2026 election

Rauf Aregbesola, the former Osun State Governor and ex-Minister of Interior, has made it clear that his new political mission is to remove Governor Ademola Adeleke from office in 2026. Aregbesola now serves as the interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and he believes his party is ready to win the next governorship election in Osun State.

During a political event in Osogbo on Sunday, Aregbesola told his supporters that he is not thinking about the 2027 general elections yet. Instead, his main target is the Osun election coming up in August 2026. He said ADC is already working on the ground to take over the state government.

Aregbesola also spoke about rumours that Governor Adeleke might leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC). If this happens, he said, it would change the political structure in the state, reducing the competition to just two strong parties.

He encouraged his supporters to focus on grassroots campaigns and ignore distractions. According to him, the goal is clear — to defeat the current government before the election. He said, “They already know their time is up.”

Speaking about his own political journey, Aregbesola expressed pain over his fallout with the APC. He said the same party he helped build turned against him and pushed him aside. He added that those who now criticize him are just making noise, and he’s not bothered by their comments.

On the issue of Adeleke’s possible defection, Aregbesola said it is obvious the governor is planning to leave PDP. He boldly stated that ADC is fully ready to compete and win in the 2026 Osun governorship election.

Switching to national politics, Aregbesola criticised the current federal government. He said things are worse for ordinary Nigerians now. He blamed the government for the rising cost of living and poor conditions across the country.

He even joked that since the current government came to power, even the rain doesn’t fall as it used to. He urged Nigerians to be angry with any government that doesn’t solve their problems.
