Football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, has shared new details on why Manchester United is not trying to sign Victor Osimhen, despite transfer rumours linking him to the club.
Romano explained that Osimhen is unlikely to join the Premier League team because of the high financial costs involved.
This update comes as Osimhen continues to be linked with several top clubs across Europe during this summer transfer window.
Although many thought Manchester United could be his next destination, it seems he may end up staying at Galatasaray, where he was on loan last season.
Romano made it clear that Osimhen’s current wages are too high for Manchester United’s budget. The Nigerian striker earns €12 million net per year at Napoli, and Galatasaray are ready to raise that to €16 million.
If Osimhen agrees to Galatasaray’s offer, he will become one of the top-paid footballers in Europe.
Speaking on his YouTube channel on Thursday night, Romano addressed fans asking whether Manchester United would try to sign him instead.
He said United are not interested because of the large transfer fee and salary. “It’s not just about the €75 million fee,” Romano said. “It’s also about how much he earns.”
Romano pointed out that salary has been the biggest issue for Premier League clubs trying to sign Osimhen — both last year and this summer.
He said that Galatasaray’s offer is far higher than what Manchester United can currently offer, which is why the English club is not part of the talks.
