Singer Chris Brown arrives court over alleged bottle attack at London nightclub (Photos)

American R&B star Chris Brown is facing legal trouble in the UK. He recently appeared at a London court after being accused of attacking someone with a bottle during a night out at a private club.

The incident is said to have happened on February 19, 2023, at Tape, a high-end nightclub in Mayfair, London. The singer, 36, pleaded not guilty last month to trying to seriously harm a man named Abraham Diaw.

Brown arrived at Southwark Crown Court on the morning of his hearing. He wore a brown suit and a red-and-white tie as he walked past a crowd of reporters outside the building.

Another man involved in the case, 39-year-old American Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded not guilty to the same charge.

Both men are facing more charges. They’re accused of assaulting Mr. Diaw and causing him actual bodily harm. Chris Brown is also charged with carrying an offensive weapon—a bottle—during the incident.

Even with these serious charges, Brown has kept performing on his international tour. In June, he performed in Cardiff as part of a tour celebrating 20 years in music.

To stay out of jail before trial, Brown had to pay a £5 million security fee as part of his bail. This amount is meant to make sure he shows up in court and follows all bail rules.

At a previous hearing, Brown’s lawyer said it’s been hard to speak with him about the case since he’s so busy working.

The court also heard that Mr. Diaw was at the bar inside Tape nightclub when someone hit him several times with a bottle. He was then chased into another area of the club where he was punched and kicked.

Chris Brown was arrested at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester around 2 a.m. on May 15 by detectives from London’s Metropolitan Police.

He had flown into Manchester on a private jet for his UK tour dates. He was later released from HMP Forest Bank prison in Salford on May 21.

The trial is expected to begin in October.
